2014 Camaro Refresh to Debut at NY Auto Show

The Camaro is Chevrolet’s red, white and blue ponycar. It’s as American as gun ownership and obesity and it’s just been confirmed that a refreshed version of this rear-wheel-drive performance machine will debut at the New York International Auto Show in just a couple weeks.

The 2014 Camaro’s unveiling was revealed in the auto show’s newsletter, but Chevrolet spokes-folks have confirmed the car’s Big Apple debut. The current version of this vehicle has been on sale since 2009 and now it’s due for an update, a so-called mid-cycle refresh in automotive-speak.

Other than cosmetic changes there’s no word on what potential upgrades the car will receive. Even after getting a handful of small improvements a couple years ago, its interior has never been a strong point. Hopefully the 2014 model addresses this weakness.

One area the Camaro has always been strong is in the powertrain department. The base 323 horsepower V6 is reasonably muscular and efficient. The optional V8 provides ample thrust while the ZL1’s supercharged Small Block delivers a palpitation-inducing 580 horsepower. It seems highly unlikely there will be any significant under-the-hood changes, though GM has been rumored to be working on a twin-turbo V6 for quite some time.

At this point all we can do is wait patiently. The New York Auto Show opens to the press on Wednesday, March 27.
