Two weeks ago, spy photos of the BMW 2 Series Convertible gave a glimpse at where the brand is moving its current 1 Series line. Now, there are also photos of the hard top version.
Part of the brand’s plan to migrate its coupe and convertible 1 and 3 Series cars, BMW is shifting the 1 Series to a new naming structure. Once that happens, the 1 Series nameplate will switch from its current rear-wheel drive platform to share MINI’s front-wheel drive system.

Expect the new 2 Series to move farther upmarket. If BMW’s strategy with the X4 crossover is any indication, the 2 Series will likely be similar to the current 1 Series from a mechanical standpoint while taking on a more heavily stylized appearance. The photos here don’t show much, but the headlights look smaller than the current 1 Series coupes.
